We will begin an exploration of Second Life. Technically speaking, Second Life is an MUVE (multi-user virtual environment). That means that it is a virtual space (somewhat like The Sims) where users are represented by avatars (which are usually, though not always, basically human in appearance) who interact to achieve a variety of personal, professional, and social goals. Unlike online video games, like World of Warcraft, there is no explicit purpose to Second Life. There are no missions; there is nothing to "win." There are no levels to gain or whatever.
The Virtual Economic Forum is a media company and think-tank delivering events, online content and networking to the virtual worlds and MMO community. We are a small team of B2B media specialists who spend time researching, blogging, and developing congresses, conferences, workshops and networking events to help create business connections for all those in the virtual worlds space. We look at consumer, enterprise, serious, entertainment and public sector uses of virtual worlds and MMOs, as well as the crossover with social media and other emerging technology trends.
