Brief Bio
This is my first semester at UB. For the last eight years I was a professor at SUNY Cortland. I've also taught at Penn State Capital College and Georgia Tech. I'm a former SUNY student as well. I got my PhD at Albany.
I've been interested in new media and technology for a long time. I worked in the computer industry in the late 80s and early 90s. I edited an online literary magazine in 1995, my first experiment with HTML. I've been teaching with and about technology since then. That may seem to you like a strange subject for an English professor to study and teach. Maybe it is. But in truth, English professors, particularly rhetoricians (i.e. people who study writing and communication) like myself, have been studying computers since the emergence of the PC in the early 80s, and that area of research has really taken off over the last decade, as you might imagine. If you want to learn more about my academic interests, you should read my blog (see the link below).
Outside of my academic life, I live with my wife, son, daughter, and a small white dog. I'm afraid I'm not much of one for revealing personal details (not that there's anything too interesting to learn anyway). Follow me on Twitter and I'm sure some personal minutae will come up from time to time.
